In
1997 I began a project I called Through a Rusted Gate. The result
was
a hybrid of painting, photography, and mouse-clicks that allowed
me to
explore an idea which has fascinated me over the years. The themes
that are loosely woven into this collection of images grow from
the
power of the archetypal dreamscape - the rag-tag army of icons
that have seemingly been with us for longer than memory
can fathom. These icons have largely been discarded
by modern society. But they sometimes emerge
at the most unexpected times - and with
surprising resonance - deep within our
dreams, from beneath an artist's
paintbrush, or perhaps through
a chance passage across an
old and rusted threshold.
