Falcons Over New York City:
Commissioned as a New York City mass transit poster that ran in 1995 and again in 1997.
The image is of a gouache painting of a pair of falcons seen from the Chrysler Building's Art Deco facade. It was inspired by the famous 1970's reintroduction of this locally extinct raptor upriver in the Hudson valley. This attempt at resettlement along the palisade cliffs led to frequent sightings of the perigrin falcons downriver on the bridges and skyscrapers of the urbanized Manhattan Island. One of the first instances of these nesting couples was seen atop the PanAm building, seen in the background. |
